Travelling to
Nyksund, Norway March 15 - April 12, 2012 |
|
|
For my journey to Nyksund I chose the "inlandsvägen", which leeds through sparsely settled regions and crosses almost all big rivers of Sweden. I couldn't know what the lakes and rivers would look like when passing them at the beinning of thaw. But I expected them to be interesting just at the edge of winter to spring. I was sure to find ice and snow north of the polar circle in these months. But there was already daylight for 12 hours and even longer. So, winter-landscape presented its best side in sunshine. During this journey magnificent sceneries made me often stop to take photographs. That's why I have to devide my report in 2 parts, part 1 about Sweden and the detour to the Lofoten Islands and part 2 shows my photographs of the Vesterålen Islands and of Nyksund in particular. |

Winter has been retreating from southern and middle Sweden. The last ice floes on the Vänern are driven by wind to the east-shore.
Many rivers in middle Sweden are already free of ice and seem to be waiting for spring. (↓) |

Ballstadheia above Ballstad is an excellent viewpoint to watch the sunrise.
This was the last photograph I could take of Gimsøya from Kleppstadheia before a snow shower was blocking the view just minutes before sunrise. (↓) |
